Our Pledge

Members of the Zeiger Lab pledge to:

• Acknowledge that racism and structural inequality in academia is a function:
  • Disparities in the distribution of social and economic resources
  • Institutional policies that support and perpetuate implicit bias
• Educate ourselves and others about prejudice against people of color in academia
• Act to combat inequities by
  • Doing STEM outreach to high schools and libraries in disadvantaged neighborhoods
  • Participate in mentorship programs for trainees at UCLA
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts to bring awareness to problems of racism in academia
